ABOUT FAB LABS

 Fab Labs provide public access to digital design and fabrication technologies. 

They began at MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms (CBA), an interdisciplinary research initiative that examines the interface between computer science and physical science.   In the mid-90's the CBA received a National Science Foundation grant to assembale a lab of digital fabrication equipment for research purposes.  The CBA also developed a network of Fab Labs as a public outreach component of that grant. 

Fab Lab Baltimore is part of an International Fab Lab Network spanning the globe.
