
Twenty-one countries, including Afghanistan, Kenya, and Switzerland now host MIT Fab Labs. There are currently eighteen Fab Labs in the United States. The CCBC Fab Lab will be the first one in the Mid-Atlantic region. Many US MIT Fab Labs, including the one at CCBC, receive grant funding from the US Government via the National Science Foundation. The CCBC Fab Lab has an advisory panel made up of people from educational institutions, private businesses, and the state and federal government. Panel members include professors, patent attorneys, artists, marketing experts, engineers, and business owners.
The mission of the CCBC Fab Lab is to provide product prototyping in an applied learning environment that serves the technical needs and opportunities of the learning and business communities and general public in the Baltimore region.
