Our Mission Statement
The mission of the TIME Center, defined collaboratively by educational and business partners, is to develop educational initiatives that meet the technical and engineering technology needs of Maryland’s manufacturers while improving the industry image. The Center's goals include:
Develop secondary and post-secondary manufacturing and engineering technology curricula in demand-driven program areas including:
- Manufacturing & Engineering Technology (AAS)—continued development and refinement
- New programs—Logistics/Supply Chain Management, Energy Efficiency/Management
- Manufacturing Engineering Technologies Program—MSDE
- BRAC curriculum needs—Electronics, Engineering, Logistics, Information Technology
Provide professional development opportunities for secondary and post-secondary faculty in manufacturing, engineering technology, and STEM through:
- New “Emerging Technologies” series with ATE Centers
- Technical content and instructional technologies
- Introductory and advanced options
- Faculty Externships—new formats and alternatives
- IWITTS workshops and targeted follow-up consulting on attracting women and minorities to manufacturing, engineering, and technology careers
- Continuation of successful programs and partnerships
- Inside Manufacturing series—videotapes & lesson plans
- PLTW—summer institutes, complimentary workshops on targeted topics
- Targeted meetings, conferences, training sessions
- Faculty development for secondary Manufacturing Engineering Technologies teachers
Collaborate with partners and key stakeholder groups to increase the visibility and image of manufacturing and engineering technology as viable career options through:
- A coordinated careers campaign to retain existing and recruit new students and workers in manufacturing and engineering technology careers and educational programs
- Initial funding to develop a regional plan; funding campaign with key stakeholders
- Electronic media products (DVD, podcasts, webcasts, blogs)
- Establishment of a “brand identity” for manufacturing and engineering careers and programs
- Integration of existing print, media, and web resources
- Local and regional partnerships (Maryland Business Roundtable, RMI, ACE Mentoring Program, summer workshops for students) to promote manufacturing as a viable career option, especially with underrepresented populations
- Facilitate the expansion of FIRST robotics and similar competitions at the middle, high school, and college levels through:
- Support of team and regional competition
- Professional development for faculty and mentors
- Partnerships with regional resources
Explore innovative telecommunications and instructional methodologies that improve the delivery of manufacturing and engineering technology education through:
- Virtual Factory feasibility study with three regional ATE Centers—TIME, FLATE (Florida) and RCNGM (Connecticut)
- Use of new technologies to design and deliver hybrid learning programs at colleges, high schools, and in the workplace (CNC Machinist Apprenticeship Program; Electronics Technology Partnership Program)
- Improved delivery of manufacturing and engineering technology content, instructional methods, and career information (webinars, podcasts, blogs, and similar delivery mechanisms)
The TIME Center vision is that manufacturing stakeholders in the mid-Atlantic region will recognize the Center as a valuable resource for:
- Current education/training programs
- Curriculum and instructional design support services
- Skills standards and career pathway information
- Technical and workplace support skills assessments
- Regional manufacturing industry and career awareness information
- Assistance in launching emerging manufacturing technologies
- Consulting services for workforce development
- The latest information on curriculum and instruction, regional skill standards, industry certifications, and related industry data
